Diving Section Report for September 2015

The only action that took place was the continued training on the Development side, all of our pupils are doing well and at this stage Rasta can swim approximately 20 meters crawl. He just needs to sort out his breathing and then he will go from strength to strength. Abu who could not swim a stroke in January is now able to swim 14 lengths non- stop & Ricky can easily swim a 100 meters. I am very proud of them all. SAILING REPORT JULY 2015

We are in our off season at present and there has not been any club sailing. The sailing school has however resumed lessons after the school holidays. We have approximately eighty children attending sailing classes on a weekly basis. We held our annual sailing AGM on Thursday the 23rd of July. I was pleasantly surprised at the numbers of members attending. A very good meeting was held and Jean du Plessis was chosen as the next Rear Commodore Sailing for 2015/2016. SAILING REPORT JUNE 2015

During June sailing has quietened down a lot. Conditions are mostly not good for sailing and the cold weather has kept our sailors of the water. We did however hold a race around the oilrig on Sunday the 14th of June. The sailing school has still been having their regular lessons but will be closing down for the upcoming schools winter holiday. Rig Race

On Sunday the 14 of June Mossel Bay Yacht and Boat club saw a sight that has been missing for a while. Five Keelboats joined in a race to sail around the newly acquired Oil Rig in the Bay, joining them were two Dart 18’s and our 420 ISAF Youth Worlds team. The race started with a slow pace at around 5 knots and the girls on the 420 took an early lead.  The waves built and as we got to the rig they were quite substantial and pushing us towards the Orca. Sailing Report May 2015

Club league sailing took place on Saturday 16 May, We had 10 boats taking part and the results were as follows, Daleen Naudé finished first sailing a topper followed by Pieter de Villiers also on a topper. Third to finish was Wilhelm von  Schutz and Louis Mare on a GP14. Marco Moolman and Reawon October finished fourth sailing a 420. Sundays racing was cancelled due to there being no breeze at all. We have planned a  semi long haul for Saturday the 32th of May, weather permitting and normal around the can racing for Sunday the 31st. Other sailing news…

SPECTACULAR YACHT VISITS MOSSELBAY

During the week of the fourth to the ninth of May 2015 the superyacht Fidelis visited Mosselbay. Residents were discussing this event everywhere you went. People were saying ‘Wow! Did you see the yacht? For those who might be interested, this is the yacht Fidelis, registered in the Isle of Man. SAILING REPORT APRIL 2015

Once again we are approaching winter and sailing has been slowing down as the weather becomes colder. The last regatta that was attended by our sailors was the final Southern Charter Grand Slam that was held at Simonstown in the early part of April. Our sailors encountered heavy wind and rough seas but nevertheless fared quite well. For more information and photo’s of this event go to  the Southern Charter website.
